DESCRIPTION
The playful North American river otter is well adapted for semi-aquatic living.
The mammals have thick, protective fur to help them stay warm when swimming in cold waters.
RANGE
The North American otter is mostly found in Canada and the U.S, except for portions of the Southwest, and in Mexico in the Rio Grande and Colorado river delta areas.
DIET
River otters eat fish, crayfish, crabs, frogs, bird' eggs, and reptiles such as turtles.
They have also been known for eating aquatic plants and to pray on small mammals, such as muskrats or rabbits.
